Position Title: Executive Director

Location: Missoula, MT

Job Type: Part Time – Flexible scheduling; 20 hours per week

Salary: $25,000 – $30,000 DOE (Depends on Experience)

The vision of the Missoula Education Foundation is to provide opportunities for enhanced student

learning, foster teacher creativity, and recognize the exceptional educators in Missoula County Public

Schools (MCPS) through community partnerships, endowments, scholarships, grants, our Educator of

the Year program and our Classroom Grant program.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director will, in coordination and with support of the engaged and active Board of

Directors, work to achieve the vision and mission of the organization. The successful candidate will

steward existing and create new effective partnerships with MCPS, key allies and community

stakeholders, ensure success in meeting defined fundraising goals, increase community relevance and

stature, and ensure effective programmatic success.

Essential Functions:

Project Director

• Ensures the success and effectiveness of projects and events, in conjunction with the Board of Directors

including Classroom Grants, Educator of the Year, and other MEF sponsored programs.

• Supports Board with Student Board activities and coordinates Educator of the Year award ceremonies and

sponsorships.

• Coordinate with the Classroom Grant Committee. Assist committee members, blinds grant applications,

notify recipients of their awards, and works with MCPS officials to track expenditures.

• Collaborate with MCPS on district needs, opportunities, and partnerships appropriate for MEF to consider

and/or assist with.

• Coordinates the Most Inspiring Student Awards, including MC, keynote speaker, invitations to community

members, parents, schools, etc.

Board of Director Liaison

• Implement policies and procedures adopted by the Board.

• Serves as a non-voting member of the Board.

• Prepares and administers the budget in collaboration with the Board’s finance committee and provides

reports as needed for monthly Board Meetings.

Executive and Administrative Duties

• Participates in overall planning with the Board of Directors and implements adopted policies.

• In collaboration with the Board, develop and revise strategic plans and helps identify new opportunities to

implement innovative programs and expansion of community partnerships. Oversees necessary

licensing and certification requirements for adult volunteers, if applicable.

• Reviews and interprets state and federal laws and regulations related to the program operations, and

monitors compliance including insuring that taxes and other forms, as necessary are filed to ensure

501(c)(3) exemption status is protected.

• Monitors and ensures grant compliance and reporting is maintained, along with other agreements entered

by the Board, with the assistance of the Board.

• In coordination with the Board chair, represents and serves as spokesperson for the Foundation. This

includes collaborative partners, on various media, and with community members.

• Works with and helps coordinate volunteers for MEF events.

• Updates and manages website (training provided).• Works with Finance Committee on developing the budget on an annual basis.

• Works with bookkeeper/accountant to prepare monthly income and expense reports, and year to date actual

to budget comparison.

• Manage mail and donations, process gifts and acknowledgements in a timely fashion,

Development Duties

• Organize giving programs, develop collateral materials, and successfully build relationships with

prospective donors by providing flexible modes of giving that fulfill their financial and charitable

interests.

• Develops and executes a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes grants, corporate sponsorships,

major gifts, annual giving, donor stewardship, and long-term sustainability.

• Cultivate working relationships with MCPS district leadership, school administrators, teachers, donors,

businesses, foundations, civic organizations, elected officials, and community leaders.

• Writes or coordinates the applications and proposals for grants and other funding opportunities.

• Solicits and develops donor base; coordinates and oversees annual MEF events.

• Composes periodic e-newsletters to constituents, manages other outreach mailings, including social media,

to share mission and story of the Foundation. and solicitations

• Supports Fundraising Committee and Board in donor engagement, solicitations, and events.

Other

• Other duties as assigned by the Board.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Must be able to work independently and balance strategic priorities in day-to-day operations.

• Previously demonstrated leadership in executing programmatic objectives and outcomes

• Effective writing, editing, and public speaking skills.

• Ability to maintain website content.

• Use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Online Databases and Google applications.

• Prefer experience and knowledge involving the community of Missoula.

• Prefer Grant writing and fundraising experience.

• Ability to pass Background check, in accordance with MCPS.
